Tasty Tuesday: baby food!

Our boys started eating solids about a month ago. After trying a bite of baby food from an "organic" jar and then reading the ingredients on some baby foods, I decided to make the boys' food.  There are some that we buy to have on stock, like Ella's Kitchen Baby Food but we don't want to give packaged anything all the time.

Here are the first foods we introduced:

  • Sweet potato
  • Avocado (Wilson hated this, Cole loved it)
  • Pear (big mistake - now both boys just want fruits and sweets)
  • Mango
Now we're on to:
  • Brocoli
  • Lentils
  • Squash
  • Chicken and pork
  • And more!
It's fun thinking of what to give the boys and even more fun seeing them taste things for the first time.

Oh my goodness - i have twins, too, and work full time so I didn't even think about making my own baby food but now that you're doing it, I feel like i can do it, too!! What did you get to make your baby food? What are those cute little plates? I have no idea what I'm doing but it looks like you have it figured out so if you have a chance, I'd love to hear any other details! THanks!! :)

Hi Kathryn,

Love your note and love that there are more moms working full time with twins - it's crazy! We started with the basics - mashed sweet potato, mashed pear, mashed avocado - now we bought a Beaba baby cook thing and LOVE it! Every weekend I buy a bunch of fruits, veg, and chicken or pork and then I put them one by on in the Beaba - it first steams the food, then blends. Last week we bought pork loin at Trader Joes for our dinner (because all you do is broil it) - after making our dinner I blended up a little bit of the pork and it was dinner for the boys - perfect. There are no chemicals in it - just salt and pepper - so it was a good easy clean food.

Anyhow, email any time if you want food advice. I can't say that I'll always be able to give the best advice, but I have acquired some simple recipes. Email is autreytaylor (at) gmail.com

Thanks for your advice!! I'm really excited - I've got my grocery list ready to go for fun new foods for the girls to try this week! So far, they've been limited to Gerber 1st foods! :) I love your blog - keep up the great work!
